Supporting Breastfeeding at Work

A woman breastfeeding her baby.

Breastfeeding benefits both mother and baby and supports environmental sustainability. The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding alongside solid foods to age two and beyond.

Creating supportive workplaces helps reduce stress for returning parents, boosts wellbeing and performance, and improves staff retention. A recent Public Health Wales survey highlighted the need for private, clean and well-equipped spaces for breastfeeding at work.

Employers in Wales are already leading the way – with flexible breaks, shift adjustments, and support for expressing milk. Join them this World Breastfeeding Week (01–07 August) to build more inclusive, family-friendly workplaces.

Find out more and access resources on our Breastfeeding at Work webpage.

A new breast screening video ‘Breast Screening – What to Expect’ is available in Welsh, English and British Sign Language (BSL). The videos have been produced by Breast Test Wales, which is part of Public Health Wales.

These videos help people understand what breast screening is and why it is important.

The videos show:

  • the breast screening journey from invitation to results
  • how a breast X-ray (mammogram) is taken; and
  • what support that is available.

Employers can help by:

  • Sharing the videos with employees
  • Raising awareness of the videos on your social media platforms
