A close up of two people standing in an office, one is holding the other persons hands in front of them.

We are pleased to highlight the launch of British Standard 30480, a new national standard offering clear, practical guidance to help employers prevent suicide and support staff wellbeing.

BS 30480 sets out evidence based approaches for:

  • Early identification of risk
  • Creating supportive, stigma free environments
  • Developing organisational procedures for crisis response
  • Equipping staff and managers with appropriate training

HWW encourages employers of all sizes to review the standard and consider how its recommendations can strengthen existing wellbeing and safeguarding practices.

Building inclusive employment at Sight Cymru

Sight Cymru logo

Sight Cymru’s focus on inclusive employment has created a workplace where employees with sight loss can succeed and feel supported.

Employees feel valued, confident and able to share their ideas, helping the organisation improve services for people with sight loss.

Tosin Adeleke, Awareness Campaign Officer, shared:

“At Sight Cymru, I’ve found more than support, I’ve found empowerment…My lived experience of sight loss is not just understood, but truly valued.”

Simple steps to keep your workforce well this winter

Keep those germs at bay this winter

In colder months illnesses and viruses such as colds and flu, COVID-19, norovirus and RSV can spread easily, affecting your workforce and business continuity.

Public Health Wales’s ongoing Beat Winter Viruses campaign encourages simple steps:

Regularly wash hands for 15-20 seconds with soap and water.

  • Catch it. Bin it Kill it. Use a tissue to catch coughs or sneezes. Bin the tissue when you’re done and then wash your hands to kill the germs.
  • Let fresh air in to help remove stale air containing virus particles.
  • Encourage working from home if unwell.
  • Promote flu, COVID 19 and RSV vaccinations for eligible staff.
  • A toolkit of downloadable resources is available for teams, including posters, graphics and social media assets.

For more advice, visit the HWW webpages on infection prevention and control.

January campaign dates

Here are some key campaigns workplaces may wish to get involved in this January.

More than 3,200 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK each year. Employers can:

  • Reduce fear and stigma around cervical screening
  • Encourage employees to seek medical support
  • Support wellbeing and build a culture of health awareness

Additional information can be found on the HWW campaign page.

RED January

RED January encourages people to move more every day. For businesses, promoting regular activity helps employees stay healthy, happy and motivated.
