Dementia Action Week

Event information

Date

Dementia Action Week aims to raise awareness of early diagnosis of dementia. Learn how you can help raise awareness by providing resources and taking action.

Why dementia awareness matters in the workplace

1 in 3 people living with dementia do not have a diagnosis (opens in new window).

As an employer, you can make a difference by supporting dementia awareness and encouraging employees to act on dementia.

Raising awareness at work can:

  • Encourage early recognition of symptoms and promote getting medical help
  • Help employees understand dementia and how it effects people and their families
  • Reduce stigma and create a workplace where health issues can be talked about openly

Supporting Dementia Action Week at work

Here are some ways you can support Dementia Action Week in your workplace:

Share resources

Share information about dementia to help employees better understand the condition. This could include posters in your workplace, staff emails, or through social media.

Visit Alzheimer’s Society (opens in new window) to find useful resources.

Host an event

You could organise an information stand in your workplace or invite an expert in to help employees learn about dementia and ways to support those affected.

Workplace support beyond Dementia Action Week

By making dementia awareness part of your everyday workplace culture, you can create a more inclusive and supportive environment.

Here are some things you can do throughout the year:

Provide ongoing training

Offer dementia awareness training to employees throughout the year.

Create a dementia-friendly workplace

Make small changes in your workplace to make it dementia friendly. This could include quiet spaces, clear signs and flexible working.

Support carers at work

Give staff access to support services alongside workplace policies. Read more about flexible working.
