Causes of conflict at work
There can be many causes of workplace conflict.
Research from Acas in 2025 found that over two fifths (44%) of working-age adults in Great Britain experienced conflict at work in the last 12 months.
The most common topics were:
- Capability and performance 38%
- Personal disagreements and relationship issues 33%
- Bullying, discrimination and harassment 24%
- Employment terms and conditions 17%
- Misconduct 14%
Experience of conflict was most common among people whose disability had a major impact on their daily life (68%).
