What employers can do

Flexible working can be a great benefit to employers and employees, but it needs good planning to work well. Employers should have a clear plan to make sure it benefits both the business and staff.

  • Check which jobs can be flexible – some roles may need to be in the workplace
  • Talk to staff – ask what they need to do their best work
  • Make a simple plan – have clear rules on how flexible working is offered
  • Give staff the right tools – make sure they have good internet and equipment
  • Check if it’s working – review flexible working regularly and make improvements

For guidance on employment rights and best practices, ACAS (opens in new window) provides useful information on flexible working laws and workplace policies. Employers should also be aware of their responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 (opens in new window), which ensures fair treatment in the workplace.
