What is flexible working?

Flexible working includes:

  • Remote work – working from home or another place
  • Hybrid work – a mix of home and office work
  • Flexible hours – choosing when to start and finish
  • Compressed hours – working full-time but in fewer days
  • Part-time and job sharing – working fewer hours or sharing a job

Since April 6, 2024, employees in Wales can ask for flexible working from their first day in a job. Employers must review and respond to these requests within two months.

To help businesses adapt, Business Wales (opens in a new window) offers advice on setting up flexible work arrangements that benefit both employers and employees.
