What employers can do

Here are some ways you can practice good health and safety in your workplace:

Manage health and safety effectively
  • Appoint a competent person with the skills, knowledge, and experience to recognise hazards. They can also put sensible controls or solutions in place.
  • Use a Plan, Do, Check, Act approach to monitor and review safety procedures
Provide a safe work environment
  • Ensure workplaces meet safety standards with appropriate facilities
  • Design tasks and workloads with health and safety in mind. Consider ergonomic factors to make the workspace comfortable and easy to use.
  • Carry out risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards, including workplace stress
  • Encourage employees to report hazards and take part in incident investigations.
Ensure employee compliance
  • Offer clear safety instructions and adequate training
  • Provide managers with guidance on policies, risk assessments, and employee wellbeing
  • Identify training needs, including specialised topics like menopause support
