Impact of not staying safe in extreme heat

Not staying safe in extreme heat can cause serious health problems. Employees may become dehydrated, feel dizzy, weak, or confused, and be at risk of heat exhaustion or heatstroke, which can be life-threatening.

For people with disabilities or certain medical conditions, the risks are even higher, and symptoms can worsen quickly. A heat health impact report from Public Health Wales showed that ‘heat events’ have a disproportionately greater impact on vulnerable communities.

Extreme heat can also make it harder to carry out daily activities, affect mood, and increase the need for emergency medical help or support from carers.
