The impact of missed opportunities

When employees delay or miss screening and vaccination appointments, the consequences can be significant:

  • Late diagnosis may result in more complex treatment and longer recovery.
  • Outbreaks (e.g. influenza or COVID-19) which are vaccine-preventable can spread quickly through shared workplaces. Vaccination can reduce flu-related absenteeism by up to 60%.
  • Increased long-term absence and potential early exit from the workforce due to unmanaged conditions.

Barriers to uptake include fear, lack of awareness, time constraints, and limited employer support. Over a third of women have reported delayed cervical screening because of job pressures.

Improving access and support for screening and vaccinations helps protect both employee wellbeing and business continuity.
