What employers can do

As employers, here are some steps you can use to build a stronger, healthier and more successful workplace while contributing to a fairer, greener Wales. 

Understand fair work principles
  • The key pillars of fair work are fair reward, employee voice, security, opportunity, rights and an inclusive, safe and healthy environment 
Assess your current workplace practices
  • Carry out a review or an employee survey to find out how fair and inclusive your workplace is 
  • Identify areas where improvements are needed, in line with fair work principles
Strengthen employee engagement and representation
  • Create ways for employees to share their views and concerns 
  • Support trade unions, staff networks, or forums to ensure employees are heard and involved in decision-making
Ensure fair pay and job security

  • Offer secure contracts and limit the use of zero-hour or temporary contracts
Build an inclusive and supportive workplace
  • Put policies in place to prevent discrimination, harassment, and unfair treatment
Offer opportunities for growth and development

  • Support lifelong learning to help staff grow their skills and advance in their careers
Promote employee well-being
