What employers can do

There are many practical steps employers can take to improve job satisfaction.

A positive workplace culture is often created though good communication, supportive leadership and employee involvement, rather than costly wellbeing initiatives.

Here are some things you can try in your workplace:

Offer practical support

Giving employees the right tools, resources and clear guidance helps them do their jobs effectively and with confidence.

Making sure employees understand their role and what is expected of them can reduce frustration and improve satisfaction.

Keeping workloads manageable can help reduce stress and prevent burnout.

Train and support managers

Line managers play an important role in employees’ experience at work.

Training managers to communicate clearly, give constructive feedback, manage workloads fairly and support employee wellbeing can help create healthier, happier and more productive teams.

Support learning and development

Giving employees opportunities to learn, develop new skills and progress in their careers can help them build confidence and feel valued.

This could include training, mentoring, coaching, job shadowing or opportunities to take on new responsibilities.
