Employer responsibilities

Employers have a responsibility to prevent bullying, harassment and discrimination and to create a safe and respectful workplace culture.

Employers should take reasonable steps to prevent workplace harassment, including sexual harassment and harassment by third parties such as customers, clients, contractors, service users or members of the public.

Reasonable steps may include:

  • Assessing workplace risks
  • Having clear dignity at work and reporting policies
  • Providing regular training
  • Responding promptly to concerns
  • Monitoring workplace culture
  • Reviewing arrangements regularly
