The benefits of older employees

Older employees (aged 50+) can bring experience, reliability and industry knowledge. They play a vital role in addressing skills shortages and supporting business growth.

People are living longer and working later, and more older workers are in the Welsh workforce. In 2025, one in three workers in Wales are 50 or older. Yet only 5% of organisations have a plan to support an ageing workforce and help employees stay healthy at work.

Key benefits of recruiting and retaining older workers:

  • Increased retention and loyalty
  • Valuable mentorship opportunities
  • Lower staff turnover costs
