Who are unpaid carers?

An unpaid carer is anyone who cares for someone who is ill, disabled, older, has mental health concerns or is experiencing addiction and is not paid by a company or local authority to do this.

The care is usually for a family member or friend.

Caring responsibilities could be anything from a few hours a week, to round the clock care.

Young carers

A report from The Carers Trust showed that young people with caring responsibilities have much higher rates of not being in education, employment or training (NEET) than non-carers.
